Problem

The exit velocity from a jet unit is 650 (m/sec) for an air flow of 40 (kg/sec) through the unit. The aircraft is flying at 250 (km/hr). Calculate: (1) the thrust developed; (2) the thrust power; (3) the propulsion efficiency. Neglect the effect of fuel.

Given Data:

  • Exit velocity of Jet Vjet = 650 m/sec
  • Mass flow rate of air ṁa = 40 kg/sec
  • Velocity of the aircraft Vaircraft = 250 km/hr = 250 x 1000/3600 = 69 m/sec

Required:

Thrust Force F , Thrust Power P , Propulsion efficiency ηpropulsion.
